During the summer of 2004, on the warm Hawaiian
waters off Oahu, I tested out one of my big game
sportfishing lures for the first time. I prepared the
lure for a test run, aiming to catch any pelagic fish
in the deep blue - Marlin, Ahi, Ono, etc... I attached
a couple of my favorite squid skirts with colors
proven to catch Marlin in Hawaiian waters.

I rigged the lure to a 10/0-9/0 trailer set and sent
it into the wild on the center rigger. At this time
we were coming around Barbers Point en route to
Waianae when SMACK, "Hana Paa" the center
rigger screamed down and the spool began to
resonate the sound all fishermen love. My heart raced as I envisioned a Sailfish or a big Blue Marlin biting at my lure.

I looked out on the water and witnessed the site of a 160 pound baby Blue Marlin jumping in the distance. We landed that giant in about 45 minutes with the lure I handmade - unbelievable! The many hours I had spent teaching myself how to create the little masterpieces was beginning to pay off. I replaced the leader on my new killer and put it back on the center rigger. I wanted to know if the last catch was a lucky shot or if this lure could really produce.

After 30 minutes past, the center rigger came down again. I was in total awe as I watched a second Blue Marlin tail dancing in the water 300 yards out to sea. What an incredible day of fishing! I ran this lure for the next two days and had four more bites on it. I landed two more Marlin, one 250 pounder and one 137 pounder.

Since that glorious day the STINGER (the name I call this shape) has found its place in my lineup almost every day that I fish. It has produced multiple Marlin, Dorado, Wahoo and Tuna making it an all around big game fishing lure. I have confidence in its performance in any formation, from the heaviest to the lightest seas. I realized my calling on the first days I brought my own lures out to sea. I truly want to share the exhilaration of having a successful day on the water. My big game lures will bring anyone who discovers them many enjoyable days on the water.

In order to bring my lure lineup to you, I started my company, Sunstar Creations, with my long-time friend, Mary Lenz, in Honolulu, Hawaii (November 2004). As of today, our lures have been tried and proven in six different countries including: Australia, Costa Rica, Mexico, the Marshall Islands, New Zealand and many areas of the United States.
